One of my hobbies is computer and console gaming. I have a particular
fondness for the game Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2. The main
character of Dragon Age Origins besides the player is the Grey Warden,
Alistair. I have written several of these stories starring him and a
couple of beautiful Grey Wardens, taking him from extreme to extreme.
There are also a couple set in Dragon Age 2's world as well.
Alistair's Story is my first long length story of any type. While
playing I kept wondering just what events shaped Alistair into the man
he became. Using the game's clues and known lore gleaned from fan sites,
I wrote my version of Alistair's life from birth until he meets the
Warden. I'm proud of the fact that as far as I can tell in my research, I
am the only fan fiction writer who has written about Alistair's early
years.
A Journey Through Darkness was my second major work on the game.
As I played it, there were questions in my mind about the mysterious
Dark Ritual and what it all entailed. We know that Morrigan and Alistair
"got it on," so to speak and we know the outcome. But what happened
during? And how was Alistair and his queen's relationship changed? These
are questions I have attempted to answer. A Journey Through Darkness
is also the sequel to Alistair's Story. It begins where Alistair's Story
leaves off.
Visions of Chaos is a short story I wrote for entry into the
Dragon Age Short Story contest in January of 2012. It's set in the city
of Kirkwall at the same time as the game action. And no, I didn't win.
To The Victor is a short story I wrote to answer a challenge from a
friend. She challenged me to write a story about 3 characters in the
game, one I loved, one I was lukewarm to, and one I didn't care for. So
here are Alistair, Nathaniel and Oghren walking into a bar....
A Second Chance is based after the events of Dragon Age Origins.
Alistair is king and mourns his now dead Warden lover. Arl Eamon is
forced to take drastic measures to insure the line of succession and
Alistair's happiness. It's a fun piece that I had fun writing.
Redemption is the jewel in my Dragon Age fan fiction collection.
Anyone who has played the game knows that Alistair, while growing up
neglected and unwanted, matures into a fairy well-adjusted man capable
of ruling a country. What if his upbringing took Alistair in a different
direction? What if our bastard prince had a dark side that had to be
conquered? Who could do it?
And lastly, Summersday is a short story sequel to Redemption.
Brianna must find a way to tell Alistair some important news and can't find
a way to do it. She manages, with the help of a friend. Written as a Valentine's
Day surprise for my friends as Dragon Age Nexus.
I take no credit for the basic storyline of the games Dragon
Age Origins or Dragon Age 2. I only take credit for sending the
characters in a different direction than what the creators intended.
Thanks to Bioware and EA for giving us such a great world to write
about.
