Emily Hamilton fell in love with a woman... in 1957.
The desperation, the hunger in her eyes made it much harder to leave than it already was. "You could stay 5 minutes longer," she'd say, hoping I'd say yes. "Baby, I can't," I'd explain. "You know I can't. But I will return tomorrow. Promise." this conversation occurred every day we spent our lunch breaks together.
I reached down to kiss her soft pink lips once. But as soon as her arms wrapped around my bare waist, I melted back onto her. "5 more minutes," I mumbled before completely giving into her. My body laid next to hers as I kissed her ear and neck, trailing to her chest.
The motel's phone rang, drawing my attention from her. She looked confused. "Who would call here... now?"
I shrugged and picked up the telephone.
"Hello?" I was unsure myself.
"Daniel? Is Daniel there?" 'Wrong number' I mouthed to Alex, then explained to the woman on the telephone.
After placing the phone down, I started to gather my clothes. "I've got to get going. James has probably already called the office looking for me. He's going to become suspicious of my long hours and leaving for lunch everyday."
I began to button and straighten my shirt before picking up my skirt.
"Then, tomorrow, I'll come see you at the office," she offered, seductively.
My cheeks warmed at the idea. I kissed her lips again, agreeing.
"When will you leave him Emma?"

------------------------------------------------

If only it had been that simple to do that. I wanted to, right then and there, leave my husband and never look back. Spend my entire life with Alex, the beautiful secretary I met at the company party at the bar. But the year was 1957 when we first met and our world wasn't ready for us just yet. Wouldn't be for a long time.
I had never thought of myself as a... lesbian. Even then, I thought I was straight. But I enjoyed my time with Alex way too much. No matter what we were doing. I just enjoyed being around her.
I got married when I was 19. To James Hamilton, my high school sweetheart. He came from a decent and wealthy family, he treated me very well. He was even very open to me wanting to work rather than sit at home all day. We hadn't had any children yet, but were always talking about it. At least until I met her.
Alexandra was impeccably beautiful. A real show stopper. Heads turned everytime she'd walk into the room. She had strawberry blonde hair, just past her shoulders. Always perfect and curled. Brilliantly blue eyes. A smile that could take away anyone's breath. Gorgeous tall legs always spilling out of her signature pencil skirt, which hugged her thighs perfectly. (Which I had grown quite attached to spending time between) I loved her, more than I had ever loved my husband.

--------------------------------------------

A velvety purr in my ear brought me back to reality.
"Baby?" she asked, now standing behind me with her hands on my waist.
"Soon love, I promise. I just don't know how to tell him."
Her entire mood and tone changed. "That's exactly what I knew you'd say." she hissed. "My best friend said they never leave their spouse for the mistress. I'm such a fool." She quickly started throwing clothes on, fighting back tears.

I gently grabbed her wrists, trying to ignore the sting of her words. She must know how much I love her. I kissed her lips slowly, making her halt and giving into the kiss.
"Sweetheart, you're no fool. Your friend is for telling you that. I love you. Way more than I think is probably healthy. More than I ever could love my husband. I have no reason to stay with him. We have no children and at this rate, never will. I love spending all my time with you. Don't you ever doubt that." I looked deep into her eyes as I spoke. "Believe me?" I wiped the water from her eyes as she shook her head a silent yes.
I took the shoes out of her hand and laid them on the bed. Pulling her hand, I sat her on the bed as well, kneeling before her. "Be a little more patient with me Alex, we'll be together. There's a few things we both need to do before then. Once I get this promotion, I'll be able to take care of us both, you won't have to work. And you'll have everything you want. Don't you want that for us?"
I pulled her foot onto my lap and slipped her high heel on, lacing it up. Then the other.
"I want that so bad. To have a life with you. Just us." She smiled that bright smile of hers.
I stood up and pulled her with me. "For right now, let's both get back to work."
