Environmental consultant, Affrica Clark does not do relationships. Not after her ex cleaned out her bank account and vanished. With her father battling the mining companies after falling ill during work, she struggles to make ends meet to cover his growing medical bills.

World Rodeo champion, Sam Preston tempts death on a daily basis through his thrill-seeking adventures. He blames himself for his brother's death and after torturing himself for two years, he's forgotten how to live again.

When Affrica gets assigned to research the impact coal-seam mining has on the outback town of Boulia, she jumps on the next plane there. If she finds the evidence to convict the mining company, she'll get her much-needed promotion to get out of her debt hole. But from the moment she arrives in the town, everything goes haywire. Her equipment hasn't arrived, time is running out, and she punches a smart-mouthed cowboy, Sam Preston, who just happens to be one of the country’s rodeo champions and dare-devils, after mistaking him for an intruder. Now he won't leave her alone. Focusing on the recent bout of earthquakes and their connection to the supernatural Min Min lights proves more difficult with her mind consumed by Sam. Except he's the only one offering to help her with her achieve her goal.
