Inspired by looking at the garden swing from the bedroom.
Captain Burra

I sailed upon a sailing ship,
A sailing ship at sea.
I passed great trees that caught the sun,
And wild branches waved at me.

A pirate stood before us,
With a black band around his head.
That must be Captain Burra
My faithful crew they said.

I raised more sail and put on speed,
And pounded through the swell.
I drew my sword and held the helm,
The crewman rang the bell.

All hands on deck and man the guns,
A battle lies ahead
And Captain Burra laughed at us
and merely shook his head.

The wind blew strong and on we sped
The branches waved with glee
And Captain Burra stood his ground
And again he laughed at me

Then just before I caught his ship,
We struck upon a reef.
The ship was stilled and moved no more,
Our chase was all too brief.

A mighty hand did hold us firm,
as we watched our pirate flee.
A mother's voice had broke the spell,
As she called us in for tea.

Captain Burra fled his pirate ship,
And in high branches he did hide,
And we were forced to leave ours too,
As mother went inside.

Tomorrow I'll sail a sailing ship,
I'll sail upon the sea,
And Captain Burra will come again,
He'll come out and play with me.

Again the masts will creek and groan,
As the sails fill full with wind,
And the ropes will sing and helm will spin
As we chase the banded fiend.

And Captain Burra knows us well,
He knows we'll come each day,
We'll throw some scraps of meat and bread,
That's all he needs to play.

I'll sail upon a sailing ship,
A sailing ship at sea.
And I'll remember Captain Burra,
And the dreams he shared with me.
