Chapter 8 Each shallow breath I took knotted my stomach tighter as the train approached. Inhumane. The wood ricochet around my head until it hurt, in time with my thrumming heart. I turned to look at Dr Raven, the commander of this mission, who stood on the edge of the platform blankly. Ten of us had come altogether, with forty weapons, all of which bypassed security. 'Now,' Raven had instructed, 'when the train arrives, we will be looking for our target as the main priority,so everyone must take a separate carriage.' I flinched as our bullet train raced in, slamming to a halt. I felt sick as each member of the squad got into a carriage, mixed in with a kaleidoscope of faces. People who would all die. 'Excuse me Miss,' I turned around. 'Are you okay? You've gone severely pale.' I nodded guiltily at the tiny boy, no younger than eight, looking up at me. 'I'm fine,' I squeaked, shuffling onto the train. If this plan worked, hundreds could die. And knowing the success rate so far, hundreds would die. I glanced around my carriage, but not one body fitted the description: marine blue hair, tattoo on the arm of a dragon. 'Hey,' Raven broadcasted into my head, using the speaking device,' we've got him. Everyone move to carriage five.' Trembling, I got up and edged my way through the bustling subterranean crowd. 'Step two. This man has two bodyguards, therefore in order to separate them, half of you will distract the bodyguards, and the other half lead Blackshot onto the roof.' Blackshot was his code name. The colour for how well trained in fighting he was, and shot for how Raven was intending to kill him, if all went to plan. 'Meanwhile,' Raven continued,' I'll go to the train control panel and broadcast to you when you have to duck.' Finally I reached carriage five, all the other squad members nodding to me. Blackshot stood out from the crowd; marine blue Mohican, and bodyguards to either side armed with lasers. Mason was on the other side of the carriage to me, second in command on this trip. He nodded at me and gestured to the roof. I bowed my head slightly both in guilt for what I was going to do and understanding. As Raven had instructed, half the squad was on one side, the other half on the opposite. Mason went in, my head pounding. He moved to the centre of the cartridge and took out a revolver, sending three shots upwards. Screams shook the carriage, and abruptly everything was moving. People pushed past shrieking, and more bullets were fired. I saw the bodyguards jump for action, and Mason run off, leading himself and the bodyguards away from Blackshot. I knew it was my turn. Reluctently, I lunged at Blackshot, slow enough for him to dodge. The other members of the squad ran in, surrounding Blackshot.Convieniently, the rooftop was open, and like a sitting duck, Blackshot took the bait and jumped onto the roof. All the squad including myself followed, but when I was sure everyone was running to far down the train to see me, I pulled myself back into the carriage, running desperately to carriage six. 'Commence stage three, squad members jump off the train now.' Raven was going to crash the train. I ran to carriage six and screamed 'Duck!' Suddenly the train smashed sideways, glass showing the floor. Chaos uprooted. The lights turned off, and people screeched as they were thrown at all sides. Then everything stopped. I felt nauseous, but I had to check if anyone was hurt. Most people were more traumatised than wounded, eventually getting up and rushing to their loved ones, sobs filling the train. Pain and anger ran through me, threatening to explode my veins. This was my first attack, and I immediately knew it would be my last. I ran to the carriage door and yanked it open. 'Everyone escape!' I yelled, and people scrambled for the exit. 'Mission accomplished,'Raven transmitted. My fists balled up in anger,'next time, its gonna be you I get Raven' I whispered, 'just you wait.' |
