Drawing a Diagram

At this point, the complexity of developing a good story line really begins to expand. If a writer were to analyze it, he/she might chart the story line on a piece of paper.
Forward: I think this diagram is really simple and bare bones basic, but then I'm afraid of over thinking it and adding too much detail that will either get lost in the shuffle or simply restated in the vignette.

1. Synopsis of Story: A young man escapes the oppressive regime of a female dictator/empress and seeks the help of 4 young Winding Circle/Emelan mages. His main goal is simply to use his extraordinary gifts of nature magic to help others. The empress sends spies after him once they learn what he can do. [They threaten his grandmother left behind in Namorn? (not sure about this)]

2. Sketch of Central Character: 17 years old, fair hair and skin (typical Namornese), nice and easy going but serious about his magic. "Donieal - Sketching the Central CharacteOpen in new Window.

3. CC’s Wants Needs and Desires: Escape the Empress' control and become his own person, learning and doing as much good as he can with his magic.

4. Life Changing Event: CC must use his powers for something he never thought possible and that he feels will sully/darken his abilities. He must either find a way to wipe the Empress' spy's memories of him, or kill him.
