Mind numbing debates in my college years. |
Boston State College Social Studies group, 1987. "Listen, I know the blacks aren't all bad, but you know that they commit most of the crimes. So, that's why most of the police shoot first and ask question later with them. Don't call me a racist. You know its true." a 65 year old man said to me. "Most crime is committed by white people, because there are more white people. Do you think colored people are evil? Well, this country has been racist from the start. How can all people be equal, when there is so much poverty?" I said with a smirk. "Colored people? What are you 50? Don't you mean African American? And African Americans have been oppressed, since they were brought here in chains. Your an idiot!" a colored lady remarked. "Shit! Give me a break. With all the social services and affirmative action how can a minority say they're oppressed? But, so many Welfare moms neglect their babies it's making the cities into a jungle. And most people on welfare are white." I replied with a squint and a smirk. "A race war is coming and you'd better know which side your on. I've got a shot gun and 32 cal. I know how to survive." a young man said to me. "If this country breaks apart, then the Russians will take over. Colored people want a united America just as much as anyone else." I said, feeling patriotic. "There you go again with 'colored people.' Did you grow up in Alabama? African Americans are proud to be American and work hard." the colored lady said angrily. "Honestly, I don't see how this country can survive. There is too much civil unrest and the Middle East looks insane and Europe is stupid. Maybe, we should go to Canada?" I was losing my train of thought. I'm not sure what we concluded. The course was very unstructured. I wrote that the primal urge was to fuck and fight in my term paper and got a B+. Boston State College merged with U-Mass Boston and my grades went up to a 4.0. I think it was my primal urge thesis. :) |
