the helping of others
one day annie was walking around her neighborhood. she was crossing the street when she saw an old man looking at her. she lived in the city so shes used to seeing people who dont have homes laying on the ground. but this man looked like he was in pain. Annie could see it through his eyes that he was in pain.
"hello sir, why are you laying outside on a day when its rainning?"
"get lost!" said the old man.
Annie could see the anger in his eyes. " you should come to church with me on sunday."
"i dont need church. i told you to get lost." said the man with anger in his voice.
"everyone does. its something that will help you. just try it. why are you so angry?"
"i have no place to go, no food, no water. i dont care about anything."
Annie left, but something inside her made her look back while she was walking away. she looked at the old man for a minute, and started walking torwards her house. she didnt quite understand the whole aspect of what was going on. but she knew she had to do something about it.
that sunday Annie asked the group in sunday school about what they thought of the whole situation. " i think we should help people who have less then we do."
the class all agreed that next week they were all going to pay a visit to downtown to help out people less fortunite and give an extra hand.
that sunday Annie saw the guy again. she knew that she shouldnt be talking to him. but she walked over. "hi again, im Annie. im not sure if you remember me but we talked two weeks ago. i will be coming here every week, so if theres something you need, just let me know."
the man didnt know what to say. no one has ever been that nice to him. he slowly reached into his pocket and pulled out a dollar. a dollar was the only thing he had left anymore. he looked at Annie then said "for all of your work and helping me, i want to return the favor. here is a dollar, spend it at church and make the lord proud. i was at church that sunday, and decided that god was my friend. thank you, i know he will make a change in my life. and thanks for the helping hand." then he slowly turned around and walked away. Annie got home and shared the story with her parents, and then she went to bed. that was the last time she ever saw the man, but maybe thats a good thing. maybe just maybe god helped him out. and this all started with just one persons helping hand.
