CHEM LAB. TO THE X-TREME!! |
In this lab, we began with three different types of fruit. Our group had an apple, an orange, and a kiwi. We tested the kiwi three times, the orange two times, and the apple one time. To participate in this experiment, we selected two electrodes, attached them two leads, and placed them in the fruit. We them read the voltage off of a Labquest. One of the things I discovered in this lab is that if you reverse the leads, the voltage will read the opposite sign of the original. Another surprising thing that I learned is that the voltage is not affected by how juicy the fruit is. Our apple was the least juicy fruit of all, yet it came back with the highest voltage. It's quite possible that the more dry the fruit is, the better is will conduct electricity. The last thing I learned was that we discovered a lucky combination in Cu and Zn. This pair of electrodes saw us through all three fruits with fairly consistent results, giving us our base experiment for all three fruits. Overall, this lab went well for our group. I look forward to using the knowledge I have gained in this lab in everyday life. I want to power my entire house with potatoes! |
