Short flash fiction novel about the last two minutes of a person's life.
I ran as fast as I could push myself. I knew he was still following me. I knew he had a sole thing on his mind, and that was to destroy me. I had no idea where he came from, or why he was after me. All I knew was that I had to run, and fast. Or I would die.
I kept going; I turned into a church and began ascending the steps to the roof. I pushed myself harder than possible when I turned and saw he was still after me. His noiseless footsteps reminded me that I was being pursued.
Reaching down, I grabbed a vase that was conveniently on the steps. I hurled it behind me without turning around, hoping it hit him. The crash I heard from it hitting the stone ground assured me I had not reached my target.
When I reached the roof, I suddenly realized it was a bad choice. If I chose to jump off, it would be suicide. The only way out was through the stairs –the very stairs my pursuer was climbing at that moment. I had no idea what to do. I checked my pockets, to see if there was anything, anything at all, was there that would help me defend myself against my hunter. Nothing. They were empty. As was my cold, angry, defeated heart.
My hands started to sweat, and my eyes were unmoving as I was staring at the top of the staircase of death. I watched the man, the evil, life and time destroying man, as he finished his ascent. Breeze-less, he began to walk a half circle around me. I closed my eyes: this was it. After all of the time spent, my life was finally coming to a close. There was no way out. Death had found me.
I opened my eyes just in time to see the man pull the trigger. I knew it was going to hit me before it came in contact with me. I heard the pop, and everything went black. It was over.
I threw down my controller in frustration.
