THE MAHJONGG DIARIES (BOOK ONE) Quiet...almost too quiet... Then... FADE IN INT --- HONG KONG HOTEL BALLROOM --- NIGHT (DREAM SEQUENCE) A mahjongg tournament. A hundred or so well-dressed PLAYERS from around the world are there...drinking champagne, schmoozing with dignitaries and celebrities. Large mahjongg-tiles adorn the walls . . . The MASTER OF CEREMONIES steps up on stage to address the room to wild applause. She is tall with a beautiful muraled dress. She speaks... VOICE (O.S.) I don't understand her... A man rises from his chair to the rear of her and goes to the mike. A cordial smile. He begins to speak...applause... VOICE (O.S.) What did he say? Then...a barage of CLICKING...clicking...then MAHJONGG! then another . . . MAHJONGG!! VOICE (O.S.) clinking glasses...laughter... I was lost...I was in heaven... and she was there but i couldn't see her... Mahjongg playing and all activity moving faster... VOICE (O.S.) Even thought I couldn't speak a word even though I couldn't understand what those crazy symbols meant... Everything moving faster and faster ... VOICE (O.S.) I would treasure this moment for the rest of my life... Faster still... VOICE (O.S.) If only it were real... Faster till the scene is a blur. The whole scene is reflected in an open eye. We go through several eyes opening as if awakening until we come to an eye opening of an infant, who starts to cry. . . |
