We all have someone who touched our lives - "The Cowboy" is that someone who touched mine.
Down at the Round Up – the local corral

There is a cowboy, who’s everyones pal!

You can pick him out, he’s the one on the horse

Doing things that no one else would dare do of course.

He know’s more about horses than anyone should

Yeah he can break em’, ride em,’ and work em’ real good.

Some people say he’s got a gift that Bogart –

But there are other’s who swear – he’s got a horses heart!

So all you little cowboys and cowgirls listen here

To a story about a cowboy we all love so dear

It’s a story that’s been told time and time again

about a cowboy named Bogart,

A horses’ best friend!

It was a day like any other, the sun was out

The wind was quiet, not blowing about

The air was cool, but things were heating up

And Bogart was already one leg in the stirrup

When a little girl with the reddest of hair

said mister,”Are you the horse instructor here?”

“Why no I’m not, you pretty little thing.

Lessons here don’t start untill next spring.

You’ll have to wait I’m sorry to say,

I must be off now, gotta go and get some hay.”

The little girl looked so sad and blue

What else could ol’ bogart do

But turn around and chase down that car

Of the little girl and her mama before they got too far

Ma’am I’m sorry for your trouble it seems an awful shame

Let me introduce myself Bogarts the name

I’m not a teacher, but I know quite a lot

If your daughter wants a lesson , why I’ll give it a shot

Give me a day to get things in line,

Be back here tomorrow, let’s say around nine

Why thank you said mama and the little girl grinned

Bogart didn’t know it, but he’d just made a friend.

Bogart had to admit he wasn’t sure what he’d done

It seemed harmless, who know’s giving lessons might be fun

Bogart arrived early the next day

He’d thought through his lesson and everything he’d say

His horse Sham would have to be the horse

To teach his introductory riding course.

Sham was short for Shamrock,

A beautiful white mare

The perfect choice of all his horses to “handle girls with care”

The little girl arrived at nine, so excited to ride

Bogart was by his trailer, Sham at his side.

Mama was a little afraid to let her daughter go

But Bogart assured her that she’d be safe they would go real slow.

Up, up, up, 15 hands high,

Bogart lifted the little girl straight up in the sky

He placed her in the saddle and fit her boots just right

Told her sit up, look straight ahead, and hold on tight

Bogart led the two of them all around the place

And there was no mistaking the smile on his face.

The joy that he was able to give the little girl

Meant more to her than anything in the whole wide world.

Bogart had never known before the joy that he could share

By just saddling up a horse, and being right there

For many had the desire to ride, but didn’t have the means –

Many talked the talk and wore the boots and jeans

However, when you come face to face with an animal so large

It’s always nice to have someone capable and in charge!

Countless lessons followed, for word had gotten around

If you want to learn to ride a horse – seek the best in town.

Bogart taught hundreds of cowgirls how to ride

Cowboys as well sought after his advice.

He taught them all with great compassion and very little force

There was never one better that could understand a horse.

Yes he had a way with horses and with people too

He could get both to do things one never thought they could do

As for that little red headed girl who took her very first ride,

Well she enjoyed many more, with Bogart by her side.

And to this day she will never forget – the day her and “The Cowboy” met.
