A little boys imagination gives him a moment of play and a connection with Daddy!
The Monster in Me –

I awoke from a nap that I was forced to take
It wasn’t my idea to have to take a break
But Daddy said I needed to lay down in bed
But that was when the monsters came and this is what they said...

"You aren’t tired you want to play
Let your parents know you won’t be treated this way
The sun is up and you should be too
Come on now there is so much to do!"

I knew it was a mistake the minute I arose
But I jumped off of my bed and took off my clothes
I needed to change, it was time to prove I can
Leap and fly through the air just like superman!

The monsters found their costumes in my bottom dresser drawer
A fireman, a cowboy, and a big green dinosaur
We decided to play hide and seek, and I would count to ten
The monsters would all run and hide and then we’d play again!

We played together, for what seemed like days, and then we played some more
We played until my Daddy came to listen at the door
We froze right then and there in the middle of playing kick ball
My daddy would be quite upset that I was up at all!

I ran back to my bed and hid quiet as a mouse
I knew I'd broken a BIG rule playing ball in the house
But daddy only entered with a smile on his face
Said, “What is going on?” “Sounds like you're tearing up the place!”

I tried to explain to him that my monsters made me play
They woke me up from my nap and said it was okay
My daddy he just laughed and said he had played with monsters too
He was once a little boy and did what monster’s do!
