A quickly written and published short exert created while reading Shakespeare's sonnets.
What is a true friend? One who joins in feast and cheer? One who despairs over menial mistakes and actions? One who swiftly changes from defender to persecutor? No, a true friend is in for the thick and the thin, during your darkest nights and brightest days, protective against all odds, and trusting in all things. The mark of a true friend is not in petty gestures and stealthily playing sides but in their actions. You know a true friend only in your heart, your inner being, an indescribable feeling of faith and trust. When this is broken a part of you is lost, an abyss of emptiness takes its place. A chasm appears that you can never overcome. A feeling of want for what was will never dissipate. If you have true friends keep them close, never threaten this gift with menial fights or let jealous parasites destroy this bond of brotherhood. Some say keep your friends close and your enemies closer, I say life is to short to love in fear and deceit, kept your good friends closest and never loss the lifeline.
