Toy Soldiers, forced into a battle, by their commanders; will they finally get respite ? |
(Poem) Toy Soldiers My brother and I once had a feud Both parties tried to put their terms forward, Which were instantly rebuffed by both, citing them unacceptable A silent verdict, echoed in both our minds Only a final stand-off between our toy soldiers Could dampen the loser’s spirits, if not glorify the winner Without giving verbal orders, we glanced at our legions, The toy soldiers, each symbolizing our ‘Super-legions’ from dreams Unfazed in face of war, ready to bear the brunt of our dispute With sturdy frames, and flaunting their rippling muscles They exhibited the most superior mounted-armor we could visualize We mounted the warriors on their special vehicles, Which could be sent zipping off in just a knob’s click The two commanders again looked in their opponent’s eye, Trying to ascertain the enemy’s tactics and plot Strategy which could be hailed as the only real factor In securing the spoils of war The next moment, there was a bang, the booming blare of our vehicles smashing into each other The soldiers’ shrieks, or the gunfire could not be heard Out of the blue, a leg flies out, with a spring tailing behind We gazed at our soldiers, still caught in the ruins and wrecks of the battle Nevertheless, their faces still drenched with the color of valor and nerve A glimpse of their eyes though, seemed to tell a different tale They shone for a moment, the anguish of watching their comrade handicapped We both reflected upon a moment’s thought, suddenly struck by an alternate scenario The nightmare of getting rebuked by our parents’ again, for yet deforming another toy Or having sanctions imposed upon, restricting the budget for replenishing our troops with new faces The impetus and heat of the battle, had passed away in a flash Withdrawing our war-vehicles, we began tending to the troops, hoping rest were intact The next moment, we were engaged trying to fix the limb back into the slot After trying in turns, in vain; we could only fix an artificial limb as an alternate Yet again, we vowed to keep from indulging our stunning soldiers in another battle The End.
