Poll: Blacks optimistic about future. (2010, January 13). Retrieved on January 13, 2010, from http://cnn.com/2010/US/01/13/poll.black.progress/index.html Topic- Poll- A poll is the gathering of information from a particular group, gender, or other about a specific topic. Polls are used as a tool to educate the poll giver about the public’s reaction to a specific topic of government. Summery: Who: The article is about 2,884 African-Americans. What: The article is about a telephone survey. The poll is about how African-Americans feel about their future with Obama President of the United States. It shows that more African-Americans are encouraged about their future than in previous years. Where: The poll does not say exactly what part of the United States was polled, but only that it was African-Americans that were polled. When: The poll took place from October 28, 2009 until November 30, 2009. Why: The poll was taken because the election of Barack Obama was the first in United States history that a non-white male won. The fact that Barack Obama is not white makes an impact on relations between black and white people. My Reaction- I can see how having a black president can have a positive impact on racial tensions in the United States. I do not think that the number of African-Americans polled can speak for the total number of African-Americans in the United States. I would like to see how African-Americans poll in the South, compared to the North, where racial tensions are stronger. Since the Constitution guarantees equal rights for all, I do not know what other changes could need to be made to have more equal rights between black, whites, or any other color. |
