Brothers

The song Brother to Brother by Van Zant inspired this poem
It is dedicated to all of our friends and family serving over seas

There is a brotherhood
A brotherhood that can only be forged
Through serving your country proud

The brothers of our country
We are made up of many different
Ways of life and cultures

Joining up is like being reborn
You come to boot camp an infant
You are at the bottom of the ladder
The drill instructor makes you all the same

As the six weeks pass
You go through a self-rebirth
The Armed Forces is your family now
All of the guys next to you are your brothers for life

Bang Bang Bang
The sounds of M16s going off  around you
“I’m hit I’m hit” rings in your ears
He is from another unit
Do you risk your life for a man you hardly know?

Bullets flying past you
Anyone of them could easily be your ticket out
You run up and haul him back to the line
This man you have never met in your life

It takes a special person
A special man to selflessly save a complete stranger
What is a brother?
A brother is a special person who will risk his life
For anyone
