lost in thought |
The hill that takes me from Mohave Valley to Fort Mohave is long. Trucks come by on my left and my right. I hate to see other cars pass me. What's worse is when someone is in front of me and doesn't move. She's sitting next to me. I looked over at her and saw her smile. We were laughing at the old people we just passes. The right passenger window was just rolled up but the way her long brown hair drifted in the wind, I wanted it back down. We begin to sing to a song she had picked out. A cherry red Mustang passes me on the right. The oldest truck known to man a baby blue rusty Ford pickup truck comes from the other direction. I have reached the top of the hill and can now see the Fort. The animal clinic seems busy enough and traffic is as fair as it usually is on a Friday afternoon. I pull into the left lane after passing another old couple and see my chance to get into Pebble Lake. My finger flips on my blinker and I begin my turn. When I looked before the Semi was in the left lane. I knew I had the time to get into Pebble Lake. Looking once more the Semi had changed lanes and sped up. There was nothing I could do, I stepped on the gas but that only made things worse. I saw her beautiful brown eyes, and he white smile. Time stopped for a moment and her hair was perfect. In the back ground the blurred image of the Semi could be seen. Her facial expression changed when see saw in my eyes what was coming. Her face broke my heart, it blackened and screamed at me. "YOUR FAULT, YOUR FAULT. YOU DID THIS TO ME!!!" The semi collided with the front of my car. Her head slammed into the wind shield. A spray of her blood covered the wind shield. My air bag opened up but I saw everything I needed to. The mangled front end of my car, curled back onto the roof of the car. The wheels all stopped and I caught a glimpse of her. Her head was covered in blood, her hair was damp and ruined. I had my hand reaching out for hers the entire time. Before the semi hit I was reaching, as if I could some how save her. At the time her head his the wind shield blood splattered into my face, my hand was hanging below her head and a pool of blood developed in it's cupped shape. Her seat was twisted now about forty five degrees to the right but the head rest had snapped off. Her head dangled behind that seat before my very eyes. She was gone, lifeless, dead to the world. Suddenly her eyes opened and she screamed. "Huh, oh sorry I was having a night terror...do you see why I can't get to sleep now?" |
