A poem about how I felt before I knew my child had autism. |
| Before I Knew Before I knew, when I was pregnant with you, I knew all of my dreams would not come true. Before I knew, when you were born, to protect you from harm, I had sworn. Before I knew, when you began to grow, you seemed so perfect from head to toe. Before I knew, when you started to speak, that in the future this skill would be weak. Before I knew, when that day grew near, I thought that I had nothing to fear. Before I knew, that day had come, they're telling me it's within your brain. Before I knew, I wanted to scream, "So tell me please what does this mean"! Before I knew, you were a child, just like them, but now I know, and they call it, Autism. |
