Crashing

The waves roll in
and then out again
Uncontrollably, they crash
the victims are the grains
of sand which are perilously
dragged out to sea.

Because of one wave
they can be misplaced
Never to go back where
they had just been,
but on - to new places
and things.

As the waves roll
a grain of sand is captured
and slowly is covered
Until at last it is done
it comes back out
of the sea a pearl.

The waves roll in and
then out again
And there goes another
grain of sand.
