The Windmills or Our Minds. |
Alice hastened home scolding herself for her tardiness. A delicious perfume had taken her from her bed and led her far into the woods. Little Angels had made bread so scrumptious her mouth filled with water. Her mother's hot temper filled her with fear. Alice tried desperately to open her bedroom window. The window was stuck shut. She picked up a rock, but thought better of it, "What must I do? The noise of broken glass will wake my mother." "Come down through the basement." a rabbit replied. The rabbit had openned the basement window. Alice squeezed through the narrow window feet first, tearing her night gown in two, "Well, there's no point in wearing this." She stood naked in the basement infront of the rabbit. She had forgotten her beauty. The rabbit hopped into her mound. She fell croutching to the floor yanking at his tail, "You naughty rabbit! Get out of there!" With a hard tug she flung the rabbit accross the floor. He scampered out the cellar window. Poor Alice was quite a mess. There were rabbit scratches on her thighs and mud on her back and twigs in her hair. She locked the cellar window. Watchfull and mortified she stepped up to the bulk-head cellar doors. There was a hose outside and still some cover of darkness, "I'll wash myself and race upstairs to my bed." It was mid December, but the hose still had pressure, "Oh! This water is ice cold! BRRRRR!" Alice could hear muffled laughter. She turned and spotted the neighbors boys: Guilbert and Jaspher. "Like the outdoor life?" Guilbert laughed. "Just go away! I'm not kidding!" she growled trying not to wake her mother. Jaspher stood next to Alice and poured some beer in her hair, "This should sweeten you up." he smirked. Alice sprayed Jaspher with the hose and ran to the bulk-head doors. Guilbert had chained and locked them. Alice screamed. Her mother openned a window above them, "What the hell are you doing Alice?!" and fired a shot gun at the boys. They fled. "Ah-um, mom, could you let me in?" Alice' teeth were chattering. "If you want to live like an animal, then stay outside!" the window slammed shut. "Oh my God." Alice look about desperately. The back porch light went on and the door openned. "Git!" her mother commanded. That evening Alice was paddled with the rug beater until her lilly white bottom was wipped red. "The Angels tricked me with their bread!" Alice pleaded, but recieved no mercy. Reflections: It was so quickly swallowed, but nature bid her to suffer for her hunger. (*)(*) |
