Hi, two days back I came back to life for I was mistaken to be dead. |
"Hullo!" I said, actually shouting through my end of the phone. "Oh Gosh!" Jane said "Why on earth are you shouting?!" "Oh, I'm so sorry! I was just shouting at Charles, for he as usual forgot his wallet." "Okay! Well I just called up to say welcome back. It's so nice to hear from you again." said Jane. "Yeah, I know" I continued. "I've been through a lot lately, you know." "Yeah, well, I just wanted to make sure that you were alright!" She said sensing the tiredness in my voice and quickly wanting to wrap up the conversation. "Oh yeah. I'm fine, thank you." I said almost asking her to put down the phone, but I refrained from doing that. "Okay! then bye, and take care. Will call you later. Bye!" "Yeah bye!" and click she was gone. I breathed a sigh of relief. Finally a day when no one was there to disturb me. PEACE! My house was a mess! But I didn't care much. I was tired. Really tired. Oh well, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Joanna Mackenzie and I'm an Oncologist. Two days back I came back to life for I was mistaken to be dead. I live at the 49th Street, 2 blocks down Madison. I have a very adorable husband Charles and a notorious son Christian. It was just another day for me at work when I got a call from Dr. Pete Samuel, the Head of the Oncology department. He briefed me about a serious case of tumor in California and I was supposed to leave at that very hour. I called up Charles and told him about this case. He assured me that he'll be able to take care of himself and Chris. I packed up and left. It all started when I was on my way to California. The weather was bad, bad, bad!!! I just had my fingers crossed for I wanted to reach my destination safely, in one piece. But suddenly, there was a big blow. I could hear the cabin crew shouting. Not a good sign for sure. Something was seriously wrong. I heard that we were losing air pressure and could crash any moment then. I had no idea which place were we flying over. Maybe somewhere down the south. And just then, when I was trying to recollect everything, it went dark. I was blind for about a minute which seemed like hours and hours together. I don't remember what happened then. All I know was waking up in a village (village?!? Did I just go centuries back???) where people looked as if they've just come out of the history books on the early man, I read in school. Was this real? I mean I saw some kinds playing outside wearing clothes made up of something, something which resembled animal skin. WHAT?? What did I just see? Was it really animal skin!!!??! Something was seriously wrong. Seriously! I had my doubts. But I was feeling just too lethargic to even bother myself but getting up and look around. I thought I was dreaming, so what better than going off to sleep again. I might as well land up in New York again. I dosed off. It was after.... 'Er.. hmm.. Well I don't remember how long that I finally woke up, only to see hundreds of eyes staring down at me as if I was lying there naked. I got up, made my way out of the crowd to "explore" my new found world. It was strange!! Really! I couldn't make out what place was that. Was I captured by a UFO and taken to a place which was un-US like? It was strange. Unreal. The people, the houses, their clothes, language and everything. Everything, just everything was strange about that place. And just then I felt a hand, a very heavy hand indeed on my shoulder. I turned around and shrieked! I guess I quite scared that man. He backed off. I looked at him carefully. This big man with a wrestler's built (was he Undertaker's brother by any chance? Who got separated centuries back??) was just looking at me with a '?' mark expression on his face. I wondered who he was. And then he mumbled something I could hardly make sense of. "Hi. Can you tell me what happened to my plane and how did I come here?" I asked, keeping my tone low and maintaing my cool. He looked all the more confused. A look at him alone was enough to make me feel disgusting. But one more try I thought. "Hmm.. Sir, can you tell me the way back to New York?" Still no reply. Gosh!! Which word on earth did this man not understand? CAN. YOU. TELL. ME. THE. WAY. TO. NEW. YORK!!? I was in deep shit! I stayed in that village for a week(I survived! I did! I did!) and collected everything I thought was useful to me. I had decided to find my own way back. Yes I had. I had to take a chance. I started my journey early morning towards north. My knowledge of science told me that I should follow the direction of the sun. If the sun was in east, I could easily find north. Miles and miles I walked. I walked and walked and walked. Still no sign of the normal human race. Where on earth was I? Where? Did I accidently land up somewhere in Africa? I continued my journey for about four-five days. No water. No food. No shelter. I was exhausted. And then I just crashed on the ground. I didn't have the strength to get up. I had lost hope and fell asleep then and there. After what I suppose a week, I opened my eyes in a hospital in Miami. How the hell did I reach Miami now?? I was going north or was it south?? I had no idea. I had lost what seemed like a thousand hair strands and the doctors told me that I was suffering from Mono. Hmm.. A doctor suffering from mono. Interesting! It meant I wasn't going back home for another two-three weeks. Alright! People asked me about my flight. About the plane crash, I had no idea about. I had never bothered to go around and look for others. I had no idea. Now its been 2 days, 48 hours, that I'm back and I'm still not able to come to terms with the fact that I was the only one who survived. How I managed to come out of that place still remains a mystery. How I managed to come out of my high school history books is again a mystery. Is there anyone who knows how? If you're reading this and you know how, then please do let me know. |
