observational free-form, nature and the nature of the man-made world
It seems like forever ago, but only yesterday as well
We moved out, moved up, moved in
Needed a little work, the new place did
But we are more than happy to!
Out in back, there was trouble -
Action of wind, and water, and sun, being trapped
And unflattered by the long beige webbing, we freed the deck.
That miserable carpet was far too big for them to take
Thus much of it sat
As things will when you're not around
For weeks on end, under cars and over blacktop
All in a roll - had it been taller it could have seen
The chaotic freedom of the blue wavetops
Of the luscious waters nearly too big to call a lake
Nor had it eyes to see
But bereft of life the sodden piece was not
Within were contained a multitude of spots
Some with legs, some with wings, some with feelers fine
And one with none, yet brimming with elan vital
Upon seeing this worthy, as I carved for disposal
I removed him from his synthetic home
And flung him to the presumed safety of soil
Where hopefully he continues even now.
