His Smile

I saw a smile once. It was on his face.
But that was ages ago. Now a smile seems out of place.
I wonder what happened to that smile.
I hope it'll only go for a little while.
Because that smile made it a happy day.
His smile was the joy of my yesterday.

I saw his smile when it was cloudy.
Then the sun came, and it was no longer shroudy.
I saw his smile when it was sunny.
And the sun became brighter. He said it was funny
How little kids will laugh without knowing why,
How hard it is to smile after telling a lie.

But now, that smile I loved has disappeared.
I hope it will still come back after a year.
I will continue to hope, and to wish, and to dream.
Maybe that old smile will again one day be seen.
