His front paws slammed me so hard into the ground that my head shook.
"Shut up!" he spat in my face. "You don't know who my father is!"
I let out a strangled gasp as Flint's paws pressed hard on my stomach. My words had had no effect. His fangs gleamed, looking even brighter against his white fur, lips curled into a twisted smile. I transformed back into my deep brown wolf form and brought my back legs in towards my body, kicking Flint in the chest and sending him flying several feet away. He clawed at the earth with his front paws, trying to regain his footing, but failed to do so.
We both crawled back up quickly, and I had no time to think before he charged. I scrambled forward, my legs wobbling underneath me. This battle had come on so quickly, but Flint was still in hunting mode while my mind raced with questions. Why were we fighting? What was the point? Soon, it would all be over, wouldn't it?
Now wasn't the time for that. I had to focus. I had to be the victor of this battle or our companionship was over. I wondered if we'd even had one.
