A poem I wrote in response to all the mooning that goes on around Valentines Day.
This Misconception of Love

The image of Love has always been
Wine and Roses, Flowers and Song
That however is not the true face of Love
Love is pain and anguish
Love is breathless waiting
And sleepless nights
Love is the constant feeling of
Something Missing
Love is watching the clock when you're apart
Aching to be together, only to watch again
For fear of when you have to part once more
Love is the burning desire to touch and taste
Love is the obsession to consume another
Body and Soul and still never be close enough
Love is an addiction, Love is a Drug
The high it provides tears at your soul
Leaving you always wanting more
The fear of losing the other wakes you from
A sound sleep, paranoia and suspicion become
Replacements for trust and understanding
Love can make a strong willed person live in terror Of Loneliness, cower in the face of forever...
Humans need the connection, but also fear the
Separation,.Love is not a splendored thing,
Love is a curse, Love is a nightmare,
As I sit here and beat my bloodied hands against The walls of my emotional prison, bound by
The iron shackles of my desires, I know in my heart
Without Love my life would be calm, the oceans Would be smooth, the breezes soft, but,
Without Love I would not be...Without Love I... Would cease to exist.

Those of you who do not agree, so be it. You can have your Valentines and your Flowers and Candy, Sing your songs and Recite your scrawled Rhymes. For you have never truly loved...but you should...
