There was something on the floor. A large, dirt brown, fleshy lump was on the floor, and it was coming towards me. It was a face, but it had no skull to give it form, and its eyes had receded past the point of perception. It looked as if something inside of it had reached out and pulled it into its brain. But the feature that had me standing there, transfixed, was its mouth. It had no teeth: it had toenails, chipped and overgrown, protruding out of its rotted gums. I couldn’t stop watching it. I watched it even as it reared up and sunk the cracked, brittle toenails through my neck, as I choked on my own blood, screaming.
