Not all diamonds glitter,
and all that glitters
is not gold...
So the old saws go.
You never really know,
until you are in a car crash,
surrounded by broken glass,
glittering in Mississippi sun.
Emily was safe, but the trip was done.
We were beside a busy highway,
another well used American bi-way.
A State trooper pulled in,
lights flashing, sirens creating din.
He ordered us a tow truck,
instead of lamenting our luck.
Down the street was a good hotel,
with a special rate room as well.
They would put us up for the night,
and serve us breakfast tasty and light,
upon his word and at a reduced fee.
That lowered the burden for Emily and me.
The trooper joined us for breakfast at nine,
His friendship was true and fine.
He helped us get a rental car,
and wished us well as we traveled far.
I have come to understand,
God helps those forsaken in a foreign land.
Thank the Lord,
diamonds don't
always falsely glitter.
And praise Him
that some things
that don't glitter
are still gold.
