A patriotic poem
The Soldier.

There was this little boy, who never met his dad. he boy’s name was Dan, who could not help from being sad, For Dan was only five, and he did not understand, All Dan saw were the other boys walking with their dads hand in hand, Dan would at night cry, for to his dad he never said goodbye, His mom often told him stories about how planes his dad did fly, She told of September eleventh and how the nation was at war, Dan did not get or understand what exactly war was for, Dan grew up year by year and still had never seen his dad, For still Dan was nothing but a twelve year old lad, It was not until Dan was fifteen that he finally understood, His dad was a soldier and that he stood for what was good, But one day their was a soldier at their door, And Dan could only ask what he was there for, The soldier told Dan his dad had died, And how that his country he had served with pride, But Dan could not understand, His dad was gone and would never see him play in his band, It was not until Dan was twenty two that he finally did understand, His dad had not died by someone’s command, His dad had died to fight for his belief, A belief where freedom was chief, And for this cause his dad did his all give, So that Dan, he his son could live, In Freedom
