Evokes a powerful sense of sadness, yet expresses an awe inspiring love that we yearn for.
I am lost and drowning
in the river of time.
As the water laps
at my body,
I wish for the current
to devour me,
just as my sorrow has consumed me.
I feel as though the world has ended.
However, life itself continues,
unhindered by the loss
of one of its own.
At night you own my dreams.
During the day,
you own my thoughts.

I wish death would steal me away
like a thief in the night,
ridding me of my loneliness.
For worse than death
is loneliness itself.
How I long for the moment
when once again you will
hold me in your strong embrace.
I thirst for it as a
flower thirsts for sunlight.

I look for you in all
the places we used to go.
There your spirit finds me.
I see your joy in the starlight,
remembering the nights
spent under them.
I hear your voice in the
rustling of the trees,
remembering the tales
told in their company.

I sense your hands combing through my hair
as it is tossed about by the wind.
I feel the warmth of your body
as the sun caresses my skin.
How soft and gentle was your touch.
Oh, how sweet was your taste.
Sweeter than any honey,
as fresh as a fruit
plucked from the Garden of Eden.

However, all I have now are memories.
Memories of what we used to possess.
I long for the future that should have been ours.
For the time that was stolen from us.
But alas, our future can never be.
For the sands of time
cannot flow backwards
nor can they be altered.

You would not let me drown
nor would you let me disappear
like a shadow into the night.
So here I must stay
with only my memories
to give me comfort.
Memories and dreams
of what could have…
NO! … what should have been.
