Winter storms rage suddenly upon the open sea.
WAYWARD WINDS

by

E C Wesch

Wayward winds swirl blatantly,
Winding through the hills.
Willowy reeds sway with ease,
While whitecaps crest in rills.

Winking stars no longer shine.
Wandering clouds control the sky.
Wretched thunder is echoing,
While fierce lightning strikes on high.

Wherries struggle to the shore,
Welter in the waves.
Wishing their safe harbor,
Will not be watery graves.

Weary are the travelers,
Wavering in the storm.
Wanting to be safe on shore,
Where it's safe and warm.

PS: According to Webster's Dictionary.

Welter-to rise and fall or toss about in, or with waves.
Wherries-are long light rowboats, sharp at both ends.
