an extended metaphor for my life
Life as Art
My life is a sculpture in process. In the beginning, it is a massive block of marble. Formless. Pure. Mysterious. No one knows what the final outcome will be. No one knows except for my sculptor, my God. The sculptor must prepare the marble before he takes his first chip away. He sets it in the proper area, cleans it, and brings out his tools. The first few cuts are deep. They are the first milestones of my life. Some are joyous, some are painful. They are necessary to reach the final outcome of a precious masterpiece. The beginning has already taken place.
Now, as the basic form appears, some spectators stand and wonder what the end result will look like. They discuss what my purpose will be, and they try to make their own hypotheses. Ignoring the viewer's comments, my creator keeps chipping away patiently. Because only He knows what will truly come of His labor. He keeps His eyes on His creation as he takes a step back, to observe. A smile spreads across His face as my life takes on its own unique character.
In the end my life will be, as the finished sculpture, beautiful, exquisite, inimitable, and matchless. Then people will be able to see my purpose: to bring glory to the artist who created me. I will stand in splendor, with my eyes gazing upward. My life will consist of many changes, many chips away. Some shallow, some deep. All my experiences in life will be necessary to make me who I am, a priceless work of art.
