Rainbow Falls, Wailuku River, Island of Hawaii Mar 04 2017 at 6:17pm EST Hawaii legend has it that Hina, the moon goddess of the Polynesians, lived in a great open cave on the Wailuku River, over which the falls hung their misty, rainbow-tinted veil. Her son Maui, was the mighty demi-god of Polynesia. There'a quite a story involving Maui, and how he fought Kuna (a lizard like creature who frequently annoyed his mother by throwing logs and large rocks in the river to try and flood her cave). After one such flooding incident, Maui fought Kuna, and eventually killed him.
