Welcome to the New Year, everyone! Yes, I know, I'm a little late with my best wishes, but this is my first newsletter of the year, so here we all are.
Are you ready for action? Have you made your resolutions? Or, if you don't have any use for resolutions, do you have any aims, or goals, or hopes for 2020? I'm not a resolution kind of person myself, but I do have some things that I'd like to do this year. I'd like to read more. I'd like to write more. I'd like to be more involved in the Writing.Com community once more. What form of involvement that will take I don't yet know, but I am certain that it will be fun!
If you, too, would like to be more active on the site, there are some events and activities that you could consider participating in. "The Contest Challenge" [13+] is an activity that runs all year, highlighting different contests for you to participate in each month. Entering at least one of the highlighted contests for 12 out of 13 months will win you some nice prizes, and that's in addition to anything you might win through your participation in the various contests. It is definitely worth joining in!
If you enjoy entering contests and need a little encouragement to keep on doing so throughout the year, "I Write in 2020" [E] is a good place to be. In this activity you'll enter a contest of your choice each week, and deliver one review for a fellow participant every week. In return, you will receive a special Merit Badge at the end of the year, as well as weekly reviews and, of course, anything you win in the contests you have participated in. You can combine this activity with the above-mentioned activity for extra goodies and motivation!
It is the final month to nominate poems, stories, authors, contests, activities, newsletters, art and various other items for "The Quills" [ASR]. Have you read anything special that was written in 2019? Participated in any fun contests and activities? Received some excellent reviews? It takes but a moment to nominate them and in doing so you will make someone, or several someones, very happy! The more people who nominate, the more representative the event will be. It is sad when true gems remain undiscovered, so your time and effort are appreciated.
If you would like to be more involved in the Quills, keep your eye on the newsfeed over the next few weeks. Elle - on hiatus will post to ask for judges for the various categories. Each category has at least three judges assigned to it, meaning that your help will be very welcome! Also, for the genre categories surveys will be posted as the winners in these categories are decided through the public vote. Again, the more people who participate the merrier. There usually is an Action/Adventure category, which should be right up your street, but please feel free to have your say in the other categories, too!
The official site contest is a fun one in January. You are asked to write an encouraging letter to yourself. The prizes on offer in the official contests are always very generous, and I encourage you to have a look and join in. You will find the link below.
I also encourage you to make use of the newsfeed, if you don't do so already. At first it may be somewhat quiet on there. If you fan other authors, however, you will see their posts and once people discover your presence on the site, they will fan you. Before you know it, you're interacting! Also, stopping by the community newsfeed every now and then will help you find new authors and new activities. Throughout the year, all manner of small newsfeed events take place, held by a variety of members who often simply feel in the mood to have some fun. You can come away with gift points, Merit Badges and more.
I have always found that Writing.Com is a good example of getting out what you put in. It may feel somewhat daunting, but please don't be shy. Dip that toe into the water! Actually, just take the plunge! We're here for you. We won't let you sink.
