About This Newsletter

I've done a couple of newsletters inspired by the newsfeed before -- and it's an interesting place to get more story ideas. Here, then, is one more note on the newsfeed that tells a story of its own.

Letter from the editor

Dear Reader,

I was just sitting down to do this newsletter, when the little red-and-white '1' showed up against 'Newsfeed' in my site-navigation toolbar on the left. (So -- when you 'favourite' or 'fan' an author, what they write in their notebook shows up on your personal newsfeed and you get those little numbers, and the newsfeed of all the members on site makes the 'community' newsfeed.)

Anyway, the '1' showed up and I clicked, to find Linked 'Note' no longer available..

I'm transcribing ruwth Author Icon note below, in red:

I was so excited last night to discover a new brand of sugar-free ice cream available at Reasor's (a grocery store I use). There were several yummy flavors available in pints. It was hard for me to choose which flavor I would try first. I picked Black Raspberry. At first, it was delicious and I was sure I had found a new treat perfect for me!

I think differently now...

An ambulance ride and several hours at the Emergency Room sort of changed my mind.

I am definitely allergic to Erythritol and lucky to be alive to tell you about it this morning!

At first, I grinned. Wow, sugar-free ice cream in so many flavours! Then I grimaced. By the end, I was *Shock2*. I responded immediately, telling ruwth Author Icon that I'm glad she's okay.

And then I re-read her note.

I am glad she's okay. Very glad.

And I admire the way the innate writer in her crafts a brilliant story at a time like this!

I mean, look at that. A perfect set up, having the reader drooling over a healthier option to an otherwise guilt-ridden comfort food. Then the words 'at first' -- to give a hint that there might be trouble, without a clue about the extent of that trouble. Then the change in the protagonist's perception.

And suddenly -- wham -- what the trouble was.

A quick explanation, and the relieved-happy conclusion.

All in a few short words.

A few hours later, ruwth Author Icon 'commented' on her own note, with this clarification:

An interesting bit of info about Erythritol is that it is a natural sweetener not an artificial sweetener. It occurs naturally in things like grapes. I have never had a problem with grapes and such but I think the problems come when it is extracted and concentrated.

I guess it is not nice to fool Mother Nature or fool with her at least...

This, then, is the beauty of the WDC Newsfeed. It comprises notes by writers, about what his happening to them in the here and now. So it has the immediacy of the emotion, along with the crafting skills that each individual brings to the table.

So here's another, by willwilcox this time.

Uh-oh....I think I ate all the Halloween candy.
Well, guess I'll have to buy more!

Seventeen words. A story. *BigSmile*

... and an interaction, with jdennis01jaj asking:

Did you get mine too? I can't find it!

So, it's informative, it's fun -- and, being immediate, relevant and crafted by writers, it's a treasure-trove of story ideas. Go ahead, take a look at the community newsfeed, interact with your fellow authors, and get some ideas and writing tips!

Thanks for listening,
Sig gifted to me by Secret Squirrel, created by Kiya. Thanks!
