Write what matters. If you don't care about what you're writing, neither will your readers.

My most important piece of advice to all you would-be writers; when you write, try to leave out all the parts readers skip.

Have you ever heard a real life story that is just too good to pass up? I mean one that grabs you and makes you want to write about it in some manner. Recently, my sister has been telling me tales about the goings on at the car dealership where she works. I have a genre and story in mind. I also have another idea up my sleeve!
I am going to create a contest for this.

It will run throught the month of April and the winners and other standouts will be featured in my May 17 newsletter.
Curious? I'll give you a quick rundown:
Keep in mind this has all taken place over the past two and a half weeks!
A young man, in his twenties, extremely dependable, ceases to show up for work. Calls to his home and to family members go unanswered. He works in the parts department.
One of the salesmen, who has long been suspected to have a serious illness ends up in the hospital. He has rapidly been losing weight, his health failing even more than before, fueling rumors.
The roommate of the cashier in the parts department dies suddenly.
Another salesman takes a week of vacation. He calls to say he still has two more days and would like to take those also. He has yet to return to work. This man has a known gambling problem.
The son of a man in the body shop was bitten by a dog. The man told police it was a pit bull and pointed out where it came from. The police didn't take action due to the dog being current on its shots. The man is not happy, he goes on the news to tell his story. Now it comes out that it was actually a stray that bit the boy. The man is facing a Filing of a False Report charge.
Now when I heard all of this, I told my sister it would make a great story! I even have a genre in mind. But, I am very interested to see where others might take these events. The contest opens at midnight, April 1st. I will be advertising it in the contest forum.

From April Sunday : Nikola, Agree with premises. BUT by saying we should love/care for character, do we skip our readers anti-love for the villians? Curious, Teff
Nope. We have to care for our villians in a sense. If we don't, we can't expect our readers to bond with them.
