Newsletters in general provide some great reading, both from the selected links to Writing.Com members' items and from the informative help and advice given in the editorials. The Contest Newsletter is your portal to understanding the mechanics involved with the contests. Even though some of the links may have become invalid, previous editions of each newsletter still provide useful tips and advice that you might have forgotten. Take a search through them whenever you get a chance. You might find the exact information or incentive you need to go forward with an idea you've had or write an entry you've been thinking about.

HELLO and WELCOME!
First, I would like to thank you all for continually reading the newsletter. It has been a fun challenge trying to put together my share of the editions. Unfortunately, this will be my final edition. I can't seem to juggle online and offline time as well as I used to. In light of that, I'm also turning in my blue case for a bright, shiny yellow one. It's been both a privilege and a pleasure being a Moderator. It's been an awesome experience I'm not likely to forget.
The Modship is an amazing group. Each Mod has their own unique style and personality and has found their own special ways of helping Story Master and Story Mistress and members in the community. I'd also like to take a moment to dispel the rumor that Mods are cloned in SM's lab during times when the Costumicons are being offered. THERE IS NO TRUTH WHATSOEVER TO THIS RUMOR! Mods are 100% human and have even been known to shop at WalMart on occasion.
(Actually, there never really was a rumor that Mods were being cloned into existance. I just thought I'd lighten the mood of this farewell message a little. )
BTW, did you know that March is: National Frozen Food Month, National Noodle Month, National Sauce Month and National Peanut Month? During the month, there's also an assortment of National Days, including: Potato Chip Day, Baked Scallops Day, Chocolate Carmel Day, Oranges and Lemons Day, and Hot Dog Day. Sounds like a banquet to me! Put on your Costumicons and enjoy the festivities. No Mods will be cloned during any of those days. (Did I mention there wasn't any truth to that rumor? Did I also mention there really wasn't even a rumor that said there was a rumor?)
And, speaking of Costumicons and rumors, I've heard it through the grapevine (actually an email) that from now until April 19th, 2006 you can purchase and wear one or gift one to another member. It's one of the "longest subscription periods ever in the history of costumicons!" http://www.writing.com/main/my_account/action/ea_form/type/costumicon
There are so many to choose from, you are sure to find at least one to match your mood, your activity or (as suggested above) whatever special day/week/or month everyone happens to be celebrating.
I'd also like to add another special observance to the month of March and make it "Hug a Mod Month". Chances are you've been helped or guided or befriended by one or more Modators. Send them a hug or note of appreciation. And while you're at it, send a few to Story Master and Story Mistress as well. It truly is the best site on the internet for writers and readers. Did I mention how happy and proud I am to be a part of it all? ..................Okay, so now that I've reached the point of repetition...........
.........let me see............I've dispelled an "Urban Legend", announced a banquet, said my departing words..........oh, yes, now I remember..................check out the following contests and activities.
(Oh, wait, one more thing, when you're giving out those hugs, send out a few to the World. It's always in need of more TLC, so keep on hugging the world..........unless of course, it's been eating garlic, then you might wanna wait a bit.)
See ya around the site sometime. ((((( sincere hugs and thanks )))))

A great site for finding ideas for contests and activities is any daily/weekly/monthly events calendar. This is my favorite: http://www.web-holidays.com/calendar/ .
