Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another steppingstone to greatness.

It's a matter of taste. It depends how far you want to take your character. It's all up to you.
The past few years, strong female characters almost became a requirement. They shouldn't lean on anyone, should be the type who can take charge and deal with things on their own, independent. In a way, I understand. Just because a character is a female doesn't mean she has to be weak and always depend on a male character to save the day. She can show spine. Be the person who can handle herself and any situation. Is she really going to be the leader who'll save the world? Catch a murderer? Is her heart still going to beat fast when things get tricky?
As much as today's writers try to create that action packed female character, they still try to make her be female, but the basic emotions a female comes with, such as being feminine, are stuck in the shadows and I can't help but feel that a strong and powerful female is rather a bit shallow, her character underdeveloped. By trying to push the limits in one direction, we have a hard time showing the softer side.
While the question is whether or not every female has a soft side - which is and always will be debatable - the circumstances a character encounters have a large impact on the outcome, emotions, as well as behavior. Just because one wants to stand alone on their two feet and be independent, doesn't also mean that she has to fight in order to be strong. Finding a medium in every situation, every genre, is important. It's where your female gathers her strength to deal with whatever is about to happen next.
'Til next time.
