Planning Ahead
A favorite topic of mine, not only in newsletters but in conversations with friends. Especially the ones who complain they're not ready for Christmas. Or the ones who don't have a gift for their spouse's birthday. We all have calendars, and for the most part, they all have the same dates on them. To use an example, Christmas comes on the same date every year. I'm sure other religions have holy days that fall on the same date every year. And yet it seems like people are surprised when all of a sudden there are two weeks before the important date and they're not ready!
Spring is just around the corner for those of us in the northern hemisphere. If you're going to do a Spring activity, why not get it prepared now? Then you have time to gather some prize gift points, or helpers to do the activity. A friend can look over the splash page and see if there are any errors and the rules are clear. You have time to create a banner or fancy up the page a bit.
You don't have to have this all out in the public, you can keep the item private in your portfolio and if you want a friend to see it, use "Passkeys" . These are a handy little lock you can put on your item to restrict who can see your page. Then you can share the 'key' with those you want to allow access. It's a little more specific than the restrictions you can use in the normal creation of a page. If you don't know how to use one, create a mock page and add the passkey, and have a friend test it until you're familiar. You can find your PassKey Ring by clicking My Account and PassKey Ring. (Those of you with passkeys dating back to 2009 might take this opportunity to clean house .)
The StoryMaster has created a lot of wonderful site-specific tools like this in our portfolios. And while they all might not be front and center in your port, they can be valuable additions to your organization and work. When you have a moment, look around...you'll find some helpful gems right in your own portfolio.
As always, Write On!
