Letter from the editor

In the US, this week, SuperBowl XL happened less than 3 hours from my house, at Ford Field in Detroit. For those of you not familiar with the SuperBowl, its the top two teams in the American Football League and the National Football League getting together to determine who is the overall champions. This has happened offically for the past 40 years.

I thought this was interesting and very relevant to our contests and activities on Writing.Com. You see, there are many contests that have been long-running, and have had many rounds. Take, for example, "The Writer's Cramp"  Open in new Window. [13+] by Sophurky Author Icon .

"The Writer's Cramp"  Open in new Window. [13+] by Sophurky Author Icon has ran daily for longer than I have been a member of Writing.Com. Everyday, someone wins 1,000 Gift Points. Everyday, there is a new prompt to tease our writer brains and inspire us to write a short story or poem in order to win that 1,000 Gift Points.

Another fun contest that I've had the pleasure in participating is "15 for 15 Contest --- Closed"  Open in new Window. [18+] by Leger~ Author Icon . Entrants have 15 days worth of prompts, where the only requirement is to write for at least 15 minutes. This contest has entered and finished round 3, so pay attention for round 4 to start sometime in the future!

One that Poetry Newsletter readers frequent is "Stormy's poetry newsletter & contest"  Open in new Window. [ASR] by Stormy Lady Author Icon . This is another contest that has been around for as long as I have a Writing.Com memory. Each round, Stormy Lady Author Icon gives several words as a prompt. Contest entrants are required to write a poem using each of the words at least once.

Another poetry contest that runs weekly is "Invalid Item"  Open in new Window. [] by A Guest Visitor . This contest has run for almost 40 weeks, and is promptless and doesn't require entries of new items.

For horror writers out there, "Invalid Item"  Open in new Window. [] by A Guest Visitor prompts writers to enter items that are written around an ordinary item. It's amazing to see just how many devious things people can make creepy and crazy stories around!

And for newbies, "THE DROP-OFF BOX "  Open in new Window. [13+] by Tammy~Catchin Up~ Author Icon has been running since 2002. New members of Writing.Com can enter an item from their portfolios into one of two categories. Anyone can also enter other members' items.

Well, I hope this issue has given you a lot of contests to visit and maybe even revisit for future rounds. Until next time, good luck and have fun! *Smile*
