About This Newsletter

A banner for the Romance/Love newsletter.

Happy November all you Romance "Bees." It's great to talk to you this month. I'm here at my table enjoying a hot cup of coffee as I write my newsletter. There are a couple of leaves on my tree that are turning colors. The weather is cooler here in So. Cal. It feels deliciously like autumn!

Just a couple of things about November: It's National Novel Writing Month, Native American Heritage Month, Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving will be here soon. What I like about the holiday is that it's a time for family to gather, share fellowship and friendship over a meal, and relax. We don't have a lot of time to relax in today's modern world. My favorite pie for Thanksgiving dessert is blueberry, but one of my sons likes apple, the other chocolate. Question: What's your favorite Thanksgiving dessert?

Did you know? Potatoes weren't a part of the early Thanksgiving traditions. They were brought over by the Irish.

I'm a U.S. Army veteran, having served 11 years active duty in the military. I'm very proud of my time spent in service to my country. I was in from 86-97, in the 1st Gulf War, though I wasn't deployed. I know the life of an active duty solider, sailor, airman and marine isn't easy. When you see a veteran, please thank them for their service. It's a small statement, but one they appreciate.

It's National Novel Writing Month and there's a lot of writers on the site participating. It isn't easy writing 50K in one month, but I've done it 4 times. My last NaNoWriMo novel was "A Princess is Always Right in 2014." Wow! That was 4 years ago. Hard to imagine.

Letter from the editor

My newsletter typically falls in early November, and in the past I've usually focused on giving my newsletter a military theme, but this year I'd like to take a look at thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving isn't traditionally thought of a "romantic" holiday, but I'd like to focus on love - a love of family and friends.

One thing I think my previous newsletters touched on was a long-distance love, how to nurture it, and the heartwarming joy one has when reunited with a loved one. When a solider returns from a deployment and sees his/her sweetie again, the heart just expands.
I find thanksgiving has reunions as well, perhaps a son is returning from college or your daughter's family is flying out from the opposite coast to see family again. The reunion your family shares is heartwarming. It's love.

As a writer you can explore the following Thanksgiving themes: joy upon family members seeing each other after a long absence, laughter when family members get together to cook the meal together. Fellowship as family draw upon common religious concepts to celebrate the holiday. Stories can include a one time girlfriend/boyfriend reacquainting and getting to know each other again, to sharing a love of baking. When I was much younger it was a lot of fun to bake pies with the other ladies in my family.

So this Thanksgiving, give those in your life a hug just because. Enjoy smiles and laughs over cooking. Just spend time with your loved ones. That's what Thanksgiving is all about.
