I am Octobersun and will be your guest editor for this Romance/Love newsletter.
October is right around the corner and with it comes the spooky season. Tales of love and horror fit any month or season, but the spooky mood of October gives an extra reason to mix the two genres.
If invent a scary creature and give it romantic cravings, your are in some good company. Frankenstein's monster wished for a bride. Vampires are notorious for their desire to be loved. Quasimodo hoped for a companion. Professor Snape gave his life for Harry Potter out of love for Lilly, Harry's mother. And the list goes on.
In October, several contests around the site will challenge you to write scary stories. No matter how scary your story is and what type of monster you think up, remember to mix some romance into your plot. It makes your story more relatable. Whether your scary character is human or other type of creature, adding or leaving out romance gives them another facet that you don't want to miss in your character building.
