"Autumn, the season that teaches us, that change can be beautiful." - Heather A. Stillufsen, 2014.

I can't believe the start of fall is just around the corner. According to my calendar, Autumn will start 22 SEP. Autumn is about dramatic change. The temperatures cool down, the leaves on the trees start to change. Pumpkins and squash are ready to be picked. It's time to harvest our food and bake pies. As a romance writer, I'm always aware of what season I'm writing in, as the setting is important to the story, so I thought I'd explore the romance of autumn in today's newsletter.

September is a very patriotic month. September 13th is "Uncle Sam's Day." It was the first time Uncle Sam's image was used in 1813. Also, by the time you see this newsletter, 9/11 will have passed. Hard to believe it was 16 years ago and there is a generation who doesn't have first hand knowledge of this event. My oldest son doesn't. I was three months pregnant when 9/11 happened. I was supposed to go to training at the Museum of Tolerance that day, but it was canceled. Andrew was born in March 2002. I wish I could take him back in time and show him what the world was like before 9/11, but I can't. I can only sit with him to watch the shows and have an honest and frank discussion about terrorism in today's society, and hopefully, that will resonate with him.

Did you know that the 10th of September is the birth of the sewing machine? I remember back in Home Ec Class in the early 80's at my Jr. High School we used a sewing machine. My friend, Lori, who is 50+ loves to sew. It's her way of "de-stressing," but how many of us use a sewing machine? Is sewing a lost art?

Letter from the editor

Autumn is a time of year when there's dramatic change. The trees turn different colors. It's time to harvest our crops. But what's the appeal of writing a romance set in Autumn?

Some of the things I remember about autumn is that there's a chill in the air. Pumpkin patches are abundant. There's baking pies - warm apple and cinnamon are a fall favorite. There are golden leaves on the trees - rust, warm gold, purples, and more. There's hot cider to drink on a chilly autumn day. You hang out by the bonfire enjoying friends and family. Mind you, in So. Cal, (where I live now) we don't have autumn until late November. Lol!!

All of these things can easily feed the romantic imagination. Maybe our hero has to give his jacket to the heroine who doesn't have hers? The chill in the air can draw our potential couple closer to keep warm. They can sit by the fire drinking a warm apple cider or sharing a warm apple pie laced with a nip of cinnamon. Sunset on 27 OCT is set for 0606 pm. Time to break out the vanilla or pumpkin candles to provide a little romantic candle light in the evening. Our hero and heroine can share a very sweet bonding scene over picking out pumpkins at the local pumpkin patch. There's always a drive up through the woods to go leafpeeping *LeafR* on your way out to a friend's cabin.

This is the romance of autumn. You can take any of the above mention items natural to autumn and give them a quaint, romantic feel. One of my favorite romantic movies set in Autumn is "When Harry met Sally."

I'd love to hear back from you!

Dear Editor, "The Thrones" sounds more like a fantasy soap opera than a game. I realize this is a great exercise in honing our writing skills. Good Luck!

This past weekend I met my husband in Dallas TX on one of his work trips. We went to a TX Ranger's game and he got a bobblehead he wanted, we met up with my cousins and after some together time, we parted ways again. It was a precious time we spent together as he is only home 3-4 days a month. I love the times I get to fly to meet him somewhere for a weekend.

What fun! Great way to share the romance, especially in the middle of summer!
