August is another hot one here in So. California. We’ve had 2 weeks of monsoonal moisture which usually makes it feel 10 degrees hotter than it is. As soon as I get a day off I’m going to Hurricane Harbor to cool off!
The last week of August is usually referred to as the “Dog Days” of August because they’re usually the hottest days of the year. But why do we say “Dog Days” of all phrases?
August is “Romance Awareness Month.” It’s time to give our significant others a token of our affection. But why August? It’s hot! I just want to have a cool drink next to a pool, a lake, or an ocean.
My boys are already back to school. Where did the summer go? Time to stock up on supplies and notebooks. I’d love to hear what is the appeal of buying brand new school supplies.
And finally it’s time for Game of Thrones – here on WDC and on HBO. The dragons are loose! We’ll take a look at how Game of Thrones treats romance. As a side note, it’s my first year playing Game of Thrones on WDC. I’m in House Targaryen. It’s a lot of hard work and requires time and dedication. I’m having a good time, but it’s not easy.

Game of Thrones is not considered a romance. It’s full of fantasy elements, action, adventure, and drama. However, “love” does come into play as a motivating factor in why several of the characters do what they do.
When the series first started, the only couple “in love” were Ned and Caitlyn Stark. Ned was loyal to her, protective of his children, and gave his children a good example of a man in love who respects his wife. Seven seasons later we’re all hoping Jon, Sansa, and Arya can find that same love. Bran being the “3 Eyed Raven” has no hope in finding love. Heck, he just kicked to the curb the only girl who would ever understand him, Meera.
Then there’s Cersei and Jamie Lannister. They’re twins and clearly devoted to each other – “in love.” They’ve been with each other since their incestuous relationship was revealed. Because they’ve had to keep their love a secret, they’ve done evil things to protect that secret. They pushed Bran off a wall and he lost the use of his legs.
Was Danerys’ brother, Rhaeger, in love with Lynna Stark or did he rape her? Depends on who’s telling the story. Certaintly, Jon Snow is an honorable character. Is his honor a reflection of his parents’ love?
Even though Danerys’ father, was “mad” was he in love with Danerys’ mother (who was also his sister?) Is that why Danerys is honorable? She was born out of love? Like Jon? Or is it because like Cerseri says: “When there’s a Targaryen that’s born, the gods flip a coin.”
OTHER CHARACTERS:
Ayra Stark: One of Arya’s motives (aside from her “list”), is a love of family. She’s been searching for them for 6 seasons. Will that bring the Starks together?
Sam loves Gilly and her baby. He’s taken them to Oldtown while he trains to be a Maester. it’s an inconvenience, but he’s better off, isn’t he?
Tyrion and Danerys have known love and lost. Are you hoping these 2 characters can find love again?
Olenna Tyrell killed for love of her granddaughter, so Margery could escape a painful marriage.
Amazing how love motivates for the good and the bad. What would you do for love?
The Dog Days of August will soon be upon us. So why do we call some of the hottest days of the year “Dog Days?” When the ancient Greeks and Romans ruled the world, the hottest days of the year usually occurred when the Star, Sirius, appeared in the night sky before the sun rose. Sirius means dog, thus the hottest days were called “Dog Days.”
QUESTION FOR YOU: #1 It’s “Romance Awareness Month.” If you could give your “sweetie” a token of affection, would you give them: A gift card, a necklace, flowers or chocolates?
#2 QUESTION: For you “Games of Thrones” fans: If you could fall in love with one character from Game of Thrones, who would it be?

Feedback from my Romance/Love NL DTD: 19 July 2017:
Quick-Quill
Personal plates: We teased my aunt because of her love for Caddy's that "A Cadillac will get you there, but in a Lincoln (we owned) you ARRIVE" Then we owned a Cad and I had to have the plate, I ARRIVE.
We had visitors from out of town and one of the men asked to buy my book. When I got one for him, He'd already left for home, but his wife bought it for him, then turned to me and said, "I'm surprised he wants to read your book. You write romances, don't you?" HA HA HA. No my book is a family mystery that a lot of men have read a loved it. Thank you very much. No I didn't say it quite like that. Just because I'm a woman doesn't make me a ROMANCE WRITER.
Amen. I write romances, but I have written children’s book, and surprisingly, (for me) It’s my mainstream fiction along with my thriller/suspense that have received recognition in the Annual Writer’s Digest contests.

Wow! you covered all the basis in this newsletter it was very informative but FUN FUN FUN. I will admit I'm working on a Romance Mystery novel. It's still in the works. I still have plenty of other works on WDC go check them out. ~innerlight
Thanks for the head’s up. I’ll try to pop in when we get a genre day here on Game of Thrones.

This is the first romance story I've ever written in my life. What do you think of the title? | | Invalid Item This item number is not valid. #2127634 by Not Available. |
It’s not bad, but I might go for something smaller. Smaller titles are generally more appealing.
StephBee is a 911 dispatcher for LAPD. Her latest release is “A Princess is Always Right,” a steampunk romance. Can Sophia save her future by finding Jonas before he finds Nikloa Tesla?
