About This Newsletter

I was going through the newsfeed and came across a note about a book -- a signed copy. Kiya, who had written the note, was really excited. That got me wondering -- what did the book feel? Could there be a story in that?

Letter from the editor

Hallo, dear Reader!

My newsletter today is going to be based on something I found on the newsfeed. So, first, a quick word about Writing Dot Com's newsfeed. On the left of your screen, you'll find 'Portfolio, My Account, Email, Newsfeed ...' (and other tabs).

When you 'favourite' or 'fan' an author, that author's entries in her / his notebook are part of your personal newsfeed. You'll see a number next to the word 'Newsfeed', which indicates how many notebook entries of your favourited authors you have yet to view.

When you click on 'Newsfeed', you'll get a new screen giving you the notebook entries and the comments on them. If you click 'View the Community Newsfeed' at the top, above those entries, you'll get the notebook entries of everyone on site. Neat, huh? *Wink*

So -- coming to the topic for today's newsletter.

I was looking at my personal newsfeed and stopped and chuckled at this entry by iKïyå§ama Author Icon. Here's what she wrote (click on it) *Right* "Note: Holy.....*insert expletive of choice here!!!!* T...".

You've read Kiya's note, right? You sure? *Golucky* We can move on, then.

So what I started thinking once I read the note was -- this book, with this signature, was meant to reach Kiya somehow.

What if we made a story of it, from the book's point of view? What if this physical book could narrate its tale to us, and tell us what it felt along the way? Did it feel the magnetic pull of Kiya's respect for Seale?

What would the book talk about?
1. How it was made (born) -- printed pages being bound together.
2. How it went to the point of the first sale, the other copies of the same book that were there, the other books that were there, how it made friends with them. How it watched other books get sold and the excitement when Patrick picked it up to buy it.
3. How it felt when it was being held and signed by THE famous person, and it was glad that the name written was 'Patrick' because somewhere, that name meant something!
4. How it kept feeling the pull of Kiya's respect for Seale, while Patrick was reading it and handling it.
5. The other books in Patrick's bookshelf -- the relationships this book forged with those books.
6. The ultimate parting from Patrick. Sad? Happy? Wistful? The pull exerted by Kiya growing stronger ... book's excitement mounting.
7. The wait at the point of the second sale, with the other books there.
8. Being packed to be mailed to Kiya. Excitement that it was the right person? A bit of nervousness -- what if they sent it to the wrong person?
9. The first meeting with Kiya, the realisation that the 'pull' was fulfilled at last, the mingled feeling of relief and excitement at being home.
10. The pride -- being mentioned in a note by Kiya!

Once you let your imagination fly, you'll think of a dozen more things that could go in to such a story!

And it all began with a note on the newsfeed!

Write on,
Sig gifted to me by Secret Squirrel, created by Kiya. Thanks!
PS -- to link a note like I did, you go to the top right of the note where the little arrow is. It'll give you a note #. This note's # is 471780. So you type {note:471780} (with the curly brackets and colons as I have) and you can give someone a reference to the note.

Another couple of examples
{note:472588} gives "Note: Hey everyone, I would like to know, if anyone is...".

{note:473164} gives "Note: Yaaaaaaaaaaay! Just wanted to thank [Link To Us...".

If it's a note you've written yourself, Writing Dot Com's auto-fill will generally supply the number for you to insert.
