How many people do you know that have that poker face? That face where emotions aren't visible and any reaction is hidden? I don't know many people like that, but that's why people are easy to read. Not everyone is capable of reading people. It's not all about their face and whether or not they can hide their real expressions.
Human behavior is so much more complex, that it makes it hard to hide ones emotional state. Even those who can, or believe they can, show certain signs which are readable.
Ever met a person you simply didn't like before you even talked to them? That feeling of something not being right? That voice in your head telling you to watch out and warning bells going off in your head?
There are plenty of people out there who are capable of producing that hibie-jibies feeling and setting off alarms. Some more so than others. It could be only certain situations, or it can be their behavior and communication. Other times it could simply be that their personality is ugly and that's that.
Writing about those types of characters, not necessarily an antagonist, can be quite fun. When your protagonist experiences what you see, may be a big challenge, but a good one and the outcome a rewarding one. Trust your instincts. It doesn't mean that your character trusts theirs. That's where the beauty of writing lies.
Next time you can't think of the right character to write about, imagine someone you can't stand and go with it! It may surprise you where the story may lead.
