The Short End of the Poetry Stick Part 2: A Few More Short Poetry Forms & How to Create Them
Writing for impact isn’t easy. It takes practice. Using short poetry forms is a great way to practice this because you are forced to say volumes with only a few words.
A few years ago I wrote part one and introduced you to the brevette, essence and monostitch. During my poetry research I found a few more short shot poetry forms to share with you today.
Miku
Kevin Taylor came up with the Miku poetry form. He’s taken the haiku and pared it down from the 5/7/5 form to poetry in a smaller form in order to create a more powerful piece. Sol Magazine said, “MIKU: from ‘minimalist’ (using simplest and fewest elements to gain the greatest effect) + ‘Haiku.’”

No comments on last month's newsletter. So I'll take this time to ask you guys a question. What is your favorite short poetry form and why?
Here's my answer. I love Haiku and it's family: Senyru and Zappai. It was my first short poetry form, so it's close to my heart. |
