Contest Vs Activity
This newsletter is called Contests and Activities. So what's the difference between the two?
A contest is defined as: an event in which people compete for supremacy in a sport, activity, or particular quality.
Activity is a little more vague:
 the state of being active : behavior or actions of a particular kind
something that is done as work or for a particular purpose
something that is done for pleasure and that usually involves a group of people
A contest is always a competition. An activity sometimes is a competition.
The biggest difference between contests and activities is that contests award  prizes , but sometimes activities do, too.
A contest declares a  winner but sometimes activities do, too.
On Writing.Com, we have items like In & Outs, Campfire Creatives, Quizzes and Polls which are obviously Activities as opposed to Contests, but some items blur the lines a bit. An auction is clearly an activity, though there are prizes and winners. A writing workshop would be considered an activity with no winners, but possibly prizes for participating.
Remember, Contest and Activity are genre choices so choose accordingly when setting up your item!
And also, advertise appropriately in either "Writing Contests @ Writing.Com" or "Activities @ Writing.Com"
