Letter from the editor

It's been one of those weeks, you know? Yeah, you know the kind I'm talking about. Having a romance book to read would be the perfect thing to relax the mind and dive into someone else's fancy world. Although, is there such a thing as perfection? Is love really that simple?

Not too long ago a friend of mine and I were joking and he mentioned platonic love, which I haven't heard in a long time and it got me thinking. Platonic sounds so empty. Caring for someone as a friend is still a deep emotion. Then there's the controlling love, sadistic, romantic, unrequited, all kinds of possible shapes and sizes of love. We cannot put it all in one box and call it the same thing. It's not all black and white. It's a mix. Even in the best romance novel, not everything is peaches and honey, rainbows and skittles. *Bigsmile*

I've seen people struggle to make their wedding a day they'll remember for the rest of their lives, spend countless dollars, invest months and months of planning, and two months after the honeymoon, the happy couple is no more. Don't get me wrong, big, beautiful weddings are wonderful! Fancy, something to talk about, but if you don't know that other person very well, are you sure you're made for each other?

Your characters must know each other! Not just intimately in the sexual sense but the level of intimacy only a couple who is truly in love can achieve. The quirks, the good stuff, the bad stuff, the emotional roller-coaster a person deals with sometimes. It has to be all or nothing! There is no in between and there are no escape routes. If they love each other, then they have to love fully and completely.

True love.

Other types of love, well, it cannot be hunky dory. If it's unrequited, then it's self-explanatory. Controlling and possessive can be part of real romance novel as well. It will bring the realistic part of life to the page. What it cannot be is part of the happy ending. No one can be happy if caged up. Hardly ever is there love that lasts through the years, from childhood and up. It's rare but magic does happen.

How's the magic between your two love birds?

'Til next time!
~ Gaby *WitchHat*
