About This Newsletter

Hi, everyone! I'm Gaby and I'm your editor for this issue of the Mystery Newsletter.

Letter from the editor

How many times did you sit in front of your computer screen with a story whirling inside your brain? Then, when you think you've got it all figured out and start typing, the entire world you've imagined changes. Been there?

We all write the genre we are most drawn to, but that doesn't mean that the story will follow the path you've created for it. Your imagination can play many tricks on you and switch things up at the last minute. It doesn't happen often with short stories but with your longer works, your characters, out of the blue, decide to take you on a different journey than you've planned for them. You may have prepared for it, done everything you could to stay on track and yet, something will make you change directions.

Does it frustrate you? Do you keep going along the new road to see what will happen? Which way do you go?!

As you can tell, I'd be very frustrated if my imperfectly planned out outline went south. Then again I have a tiny case of OCD and like things done a certain way. If it's already marked down, then there's no going back. Yet, that type of thinking, which is my biggest problem, will get me stuck with a half finished story which isn't going anywhere anymore. It's conflicted because I'm making it so. Right?

In order to fix it would mean to keep an open mind and let the characters take over. I've said this before, but it's easier said than done. It is one of the reasons why outlining a story is a bad decision for me. You might have a different reaction to a situation like this. Care to share? *Bigsmile*

'Til next time!
